The Above Tower built at the main entrance to the temple is 236 feet high, in 13 levels and adorned with 13 glittering golden cones. Temple itself covers a vast area of 156 acres in an island surrounded by river, Kaveri and Kollidam.
The main deity is Vishnu, with the name Sri Ranganathan is in the Sanctum Sanctorium , a topped with golden dome. The idol of the lord is hard black grantite sculpture. The age of the sculplute is pre historic. Hindu scriptures mentions that the idol was a gift to King Vibishana from King Rama of Ayodya. The beautiful and huge pitch black stone was in the of King Rama for several millinium and known as Sri Ranga Vimanam.and believed to be about 8-900,000years old. On the way to Sri Lanka, King Vibishana and his entourage chose this beautiful island for rest and re cuperation,
Legends says that the King could not lift the idol and decided to leave there it . Several Kings and Rulers built a massive fort and shrines in the island.
In one of the chambers. the immortal remains of Saint Ramanujar in sitting posture is preserved for nearly 800 years.

(Photography inside the temple is not allowed. Therefore, posted herein below is the near replica of the idol kept in our Home) . This is made of papaermache and plaster of paris and colored.
